De Brescia a Rome and back to Brescia the circle has been completed and the days of the 2021 edition of the 1000 Miles have flown by. It is that as with anything really memorable, time passes very quickly. For something Enzo Ferrari rated it as "the most beautiful race in the world ”.
The now completed circle represents perfection and wholeness, it is the emblem of continuity. That same continuity that characterizes the almost century-old relationship between Alfa Romeo and the 1000 Miglia: the brand holds the record for victories in this race, eleven of which were between 1927 and 1957.
In this edition, Alfa Romeo was once again the most represented car manufacturer, with Car 50 in the race, and especially the winning brand. The Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Super Sport of 1929 of the team Villa Trasqua has climbed to the top of the podium, piloted by the duo Vesco-Salvinelli.
In this edition of the 1000 Miglia had the participation of 385 historic cars which 341 they reached the finish line after completing 1.719,81 kilometers, divided into four days and going through 200 municipalities and seven regions.
As a detail, all the historic Alfa Romeos registered by the Heritage department of the brand they completed the race. The four jewels of the collection of Alfa Romeo Museum they were driven by exceptional pilots. Aboard the Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint estuvo John Elkann, President of Stellantis; and his wife Lavinia borromeo
The multi-champions Giovanni moceri y Daniele Bonetti they got on the Alfa Romeo 6C 1500 Super Sport without the small technical inconveniences causing problems, the enthusiasts Alberto Vassallo y Giovanni Bianco, of the digital platform Car & Vintage; led to the goal of a peculiar Alfa Romeo 2000 Sportiva. The same happened with Roberto Giolito, head of Heritage, and the television presenter Camila Raznovich, which reached the end on the "Guest Car" Alfa Romeo 1900 Sport Spider.
“It has been incredible to have the opportunity to discover sometimes unknown places and towns in this country. My special thanks to the entire organization and to Roberto Giolito, my traveling companion. Participating in the 1000 Miglia should be on everyone's wish list "Camila Raznovich commented.
But, as Stellantis president John Elkann and his wife Lavinia Borromeo have stated: "In addition to the public, the scenery and the impressive cars, the competitive element is of fundamental importance and we are very proud that an Alfa Romeo has won this edition."
The trip included a series of time and sealing checks. Each competitor received a card at the start that had to be stamped at certain times according to their start number. Along the way, the timed tests according to the road book were established. These were sections that had to be approached in a specific period of time, on a particular hourly average.
What is more fun, pure speed or consistency? It is an unanswered question that raises mixed opinions, although shared by all the drivers is the enthusiasm that is felt every time the 1000 Miglia starts.
