The team M-Sport Ford arrives in Córdoba, scene of 38th Rally Argentina, strengthened by the great start to the season that included three wins in four appearances. Sébastien Ogier He triumphed in Monte Carlo, Mexico and Corsica and that allows him to be a comfortable leader of the contest and favorite to prevail in the test organized by the Automobile Club Argentino, a career that never had it among its winners. To that is added the desire for revenge of Elfyn Evans, which almost won last year. The trident completes it Teemu suninen, who will have their first experience on the roads of the Mediterranean province. Next, the opinion of each one about this commitment.
Sébastien Ogier: “We have had a great start to the season and we face the Argentine rally with the ambition to continue in this way. This is the only World Cup event that both Julien (Ingrassia, his navigator) and I have yet to win. Obviously we would like to achieve it, but we know that victory will not be easy. We have made a lot of progress this year and we will certainly do our best, but the competition is strong and in this rally the key will be again in the role that we achieved on Friday. The Fiesta was fantastic on the land of Mexico, but the Argentine surface is completely different. The tracks are much smoother and gritty, but also quite hard in places, which means that a good result depends on a compromise between speed and endurance. Just before traveling to Argentina we did a development test in Portugal and we were able to verify that everything is moving in the right direction, which makes us hope for another good result ”.
Elfyn Evans: “I didn't have the best start to the season, but we are determined to change that this weekend… You have to have a fairly measured approach for an event like this as there is very little room for error. There is the possibility that something will happen to you practically in every corner so you have to have a clean rally and avoid mistakes to a minimum ”.
Teemu suninen: “Argentina will be an interesting event because it will be my first time. We did the recon in 2016 and from what I can remember there are quite a few changes of pace in the stages - high speed roads often turn into very narrow tracks with no space. Precisely, the change of pace is the biggest challenge, although the surface is also soft in some places and the risk of punctures is increased by small stones that are there ”.
