The Portuguese Antonio Felix Da Costa (DS Techeetah) achieved his first win in Season 7 of the Formula E in a thrilling finale of Monaco E-Prix in which he surpassed Mitch Evans (Jaguar Racing) in the final lap of the race.
Da Costa, reigning champion of the electrical category, started from pole position in the first experience of the specialty in the complete circuit of the Principality Monaco and maintained the leadership at the start of the competition.
However, from third position and on lap 19, Evans was able to attack them and in just a few seconds he overtook Frijns in the first corner of Sainte Devote and then went down Da Costa on the Beau Rivage climb to overtake the Portuguese in a sector very narrow of the circuit.
The Jaguar driver stayed in front and got away from his pursuers, but the entry of the safety car on lap 20 due to the withdrawal of the car from René Rast (Audi Sport ABT Schaeffler) changed the race.
This brought the entire peloton together and at the time of restart Evans found himself with less energy available, which led to him being attacked by Da Costa and Frijns, who would eventually overtake him on the last lap of the race.
In this way, Da Costa achieved his first win of the year after having gone through difficult moments in the championship, especially in the previous appointment in Valencia, when he dominated Saturday's competition and then ran out of energy shortly after the end.
Frijns, with the second position, took the leadership of the championship with 62 points, five more than the Dutch Nyck de Vries (Mercedes-Benz EQ), who retired this Saturday.
Evans is third, 8 from the top, and Da Costa advanced to fourth with 52 points on his personal tally.
The Formula E season will continue on 19 20 and June, when he will contest two races when he first visits the autodromo de Puebla, in Mexico.
