After its two victories in the 2016 and 2017 editions of the fearsome Dakar, Peugeot Sport presented the new vehicle with which it aspires to continue reigning in off-road competitions: the Peugeot 3008DKR Maxi.
The new car is 20 centimeters wider than its predecessor to reach a total width of 2,40 meters. This is due to the kinematics of the suspensions, which has grown 10 centimeters on each side. The objective of the Peugeot Sport engineers with these modifications has been to gain stability and improve the vehicle's dynamics. These evolutions are part of a year-long development program.
“By starting the Dakar last January we had already started work on the next generation of the Peugeot 3008DKR. Our engineers had made it their mission to study new avenues for technical improvement. The latest developments that have been brought to the vehicle should allow more performance in our next sporting challenges and give our teams the best chances of success ”, said Bruno Famin, director of Peugeot Sport.
The Peugeot 3008DKR Maxi will compete for the first time in the Silk Way Rally 2017, a decisive stage in the technical process, with more than 10.000 km of travel between Moscow (Russia) and Xian (China), passing through the steppes of Kazakhstan.
Sébastien Loeb's role will be to test the different modifications, to direct the orientation of the next tests, which will be carried out with the 2018 Dakar in mind. However, as Famin points out, “there is only one objective in this 15-day race: the victory".
Loeb will be accompanied on this adventure by Stéphane Peterhansel, Dakar winner and current Silk Way Rally champion, and Cyril Despres, both at the wheel of two Peugeot 3008DKRs, the version that achieved the triplet in the Dakar 2017.
