The Chilean Francisco "Jacket" López lived an intense week in Portugal, where a few days ago he tried the Can-Am with which he will compete in the Dakar 2022 de Saudi Arabia next to his navigator John Paul Latrach. After returning from Europe, the double Dakar champion driver (2019 and 2021) in Side by Side (SSV) went to Copiapó with new vigor to continue preparing for the test that will be held between January 1 and 15 next.

But he not only tested the car with the supplier team, South Racing Can-Am. Furthermore, he made an agreement to be factory pilot of the Canadian brand for three years, which will allow him to work with the team directly to have a state-of-the-art vehicle in every aspect and with absolute support in his next January commitments on Saudi soil.

“This important agreement with Can-Am will allow me to continue growing in the category, which will get stronger every time. Now in the Dakar 2022 I will have state-of-the-art equipment, with a backpacker (support) and a similar vehicle in Chile to train during the year ”, indicated Chaleco López, very happy with the new agreement.

The fact of being an official pilot also considers being able to plan to race on some date of the 2022 Cross Country World Rally Championship, as he once did as a motorcycle racer, but this time it will be on all four wheels, which will take shape once the Dakar is over.

On the other hand, with the new Side by Side, Chaleco López will compete in the longest and most difficult race in the world between January 1 and 15 in the category T3, since the SSVs are divided into T3 and T4, in whose series he won in 2021 receiving two Tuareg for his triumphs with Latrach.

"The team decided to enroll in both categories, since the T3 is faster, more competitive, has no flange restriction on the turbo and is wider, which has motivated the whole team", said the 46-year-old, two-time Dakar champion.

López will join the select team Can-Am Factory South Racing that also make up the American Austin Jones, the Polish Aron domzalaThe Australian Molly taylor and Spanish Gerard Farres.
