Chile out of the WRC calendar

The trans-Andean competition will be replaced by the Acropolis Rally, which returns to the tournament after several years.

Definitely, the World Rally will not come to South America neither in 2021 as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Discarded a while ago the presence of the WRC in the Argentina, now it was announced that the visit that was scheduled for Chile end of this year.

Instead the category will recover a classic: The Acropolis Rally, which will be disputed September 9 to 12. The return to Greek territory will end a long hiatus that began in 2013.

Rally ChileAcropolis was first held in 1951 and it came to be regarded as one of the toughest events in the WRC, as the winding mountain roads are combined with intense heat and suffocating dust.

Colin McRae tops the event's honor roll with five wins. The winners list also includes the champions Sébastien Loeb, Juha Kankkunen, Walter Röhrl y Carlos Sainz.

Known as the Rally of the Gods, the Acropolis Rally of Greece will start under the famous temple of the Parthenon in Athens giving back to the WRC one of his famous postcards.

“Chile proved to be a popular addition to the WRC in 2019. Unfortunately, the country suffered greatly from last year's pandemic and the situation remains difficult. We are extremely disappointed to lose this year's event, but Chile is still a very important part of the WRC family. ” said Jona siebel, CEO WRC Promoter.
