Car tire maintenance is key to having a comfortable and safe ride. With the holiday season getting closer and closer, it is good to take into account the following recommendations.
Vehicles can accelerate, turn, brake and stop as needed, thanks to the tires. The air with which they are inflated supports the weight of the vehicle and absorbs the irregularities of the road surface, thus providing a comfortable ride.
The wheels not only transmit the power of the engine and the brakes to the road surface causing the vehicle to move forward or stop, but also shift the movement of the steering wheel to steer or drive in a straight line by controlling the direction of the car.
WHY IS ITS CORRECT MAINTENANCE IMPORTANT?
Shoes with worn soles put strain on the feet and back, but they also cause slipping and other dangerous situations, especially on rainy days. The same happens with the tires: it is advisable to carry out the necessary checks to guarantee correct circulation.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THEY ARE USED CONTINUOUSLY?
Wheels wear out from friction, deteriorate from changes in temperature and UV rays, and are damaged by foreign objects. Improper maintenance can lead to skidding during braking or cornering, inefficient brake operation, decreased ride comfort, or loss of control on wet roads.
WHEN TO REPLACE THEM?
When the treads (the outer rubber part that surrounds the armature or carcass of the tire) are worn, that is, their lines do not look deep and clear. Also, to maintain safety and ride quality, the minimum tread depression on passenger cars is 1,6mm, but a depth of 4,0mm should be considered as a red flag. Therefore, it is advisable to replace the tires when the depth of the tread is less than 4,0 mm.
If it is too high, they will not be able to perform properly during braking and cornering. Also, if you drive at high speed with low pressure, they can burst. That is why it is advisable to carry out periodic checks of the tire pressure in order to keep them within the specified values.
