The victory of Helio Castroneves in the 105rd edition of the Indianapolis 500 came with a check for u $ s 1.828.305, just over 20 percent of the u $ s 8.854.565 that IndyCar Series and Indianapolis Motor Speedway brought into play in this new version of the legendary test.
The award that the Brazilian received in 2021 represents an increase of almost half a million dollars compared to the amount received by the Japanese Takuma Sato for winning the competition in 2020 ($ 1.370.500).
Also, the total bag of this opportunity increased by more than $ 1.3 million compared to last year. Originally, Roger Penske, chairman of the series and the layout, had promised $ 15 million in prize moneyyes, but the pandemic of coronavirus made that impossible.
