There are 46 days until the Dakar 2021. Only a month and a half for the category Dakar Classic see the birth of its first edition on the sands of Saudi Arabia.
Although ASO, who organizes the race, has revealed little information about this brand new class there is great enthusiasm. So much so that it already has a thirty scored that they will use, as the division establishes, vehicles before 2000.
For these competitors, the test will be carried out on a parallel route and with a speed to be determined that would be between 50 and 60 km / h.
This new category will allow you to see several iconic vehicles in action again, such as the Mercedes-Benz G 320 who participated in the Dakar in the mid-80s.
The Spanish team rumbozero will enlist two G 320 from 1994 to be driven by
Antonio Gutiérrez y Carlos Wind. Obviously, these units have been specially prepared for the requirement.
The very robustness of the G-Class has been improved by the suspension thanks to special shock absorbers and slightly higher and more efficient springs. This will give them much more traction and above all it will allow them to go at a higher speed over the dunes.
They have also invested time and resources in protecting all the underbody of the car, the bridges (everything that may suffer in the race, especially in stones, has been protected) and they have invested a lot in reliability, making very thorough checks on the two vehicles to avoid any problem in the 10.000 kilometers of the race.
The G-Class is a legend and a success story, whose key factor in achieving it has been teamwork. It already has a history of medals among which is that victory of Jacky Ickx at the Paris-Dakar in 1983.
