El Dakar 2020 not only innovated with the premiere of a new scenario, such as Saudi Arabia, but also with the use of painted road-books that the organization delivered in several stages just a few minutes before the start of the specials.

The objective of this system is to prevent teams with a larger budget from having time to analyze the route sheets and give extra information to their pilots.

Dakar 2020For an operational question, the painted road-books were facilitated in six of the twelve stages of the race, but this will change in 2021 since the idea of those responsible for the strenuous test is that the participants have the roadmaps minutes before in all the days.

To avoid having to print all the road-books, which often have attachments due to last minute changes, Work is underway to use the technology with digital roadmaps that will be loaded into special devices.

This would add an extra spice to the competition since navigation would become more relevant.
