The prestigious firm Abarth presented the Abarth 124 rally, a model focused on the category that gives it its name and which was designed according to the specifications of the R-GT category to compete as a customer-racing car in FIA championships.
Abarth thus decided to return to racing as a supplier of competition vehicles of the highest quality and technology, offering its customers a car with a price of 140.000 euros (tax excluded).
The new Abarth 124 rally was developed from the base of the great Abarth 124 spider. It is a two-seater with a longitudinal front-center engine and rear-wheel drive, which combines a 1,8-liter gasoline displacement with state-of-the-art technologies (direct injection, turbocharger, variable valve timing…). It mounts a SADEV gearbox, which transmits the driving torque to the rear wheels, managed by a self-locking differential, aided by active traction control.
With just over a thousand kilos of homologation weight, pushed by just over 300 horsepower, the Abarth 124 rally promises to return the spectacularity to the stages with its striking evolutions on the asphalt, typical of a rear-wheel drive.
In addition, the car stands out especially for the great similarities it establishes with respect to the street version, with which it shares all the body parts (including the hood, bumpers or wings), in addition to its mechanical arrangement, or the suspension design, equivalent in both variables.
Another aspect to which special attention has been paid is the cost per kilometer. The Abarth 124 rally is a machine specifically designed to require reduced maintenance, which allows optimizing the operating costs of the racing teams that bet on it.
The first Abarth 124 rally has an owner. It is the SMC Junior Motorsport team, which will use it in the Spanish Asphalt Rally Championship.
