Gerard de Rooy prepares an electric truck for the Dakar rally

It will be released in the 2023 edition. Development tests will begin next April.

More and more projects confirm that the path chosen by the Dakar rally To be friendly with the environment in the near future is the right one. With my mind set on editing 2023, the Dutch Gerard deRooy is already working on the development of a fully electric truck.

The truck will be identical to the ones you use regularly, except that its diesel engine will be replaced by an electric one. The first tests with the prototype are scheduled for next April.

“I like all the technology behind it. I am not an expert, but I try to find good specialists for the team, in addition to finding good components ”, admitted the person in charge of the Team DeRooy, which for this undertaking has the support of Urban Mobility Systems (UMS) and Allison Transmissions.

For the project to have a future, De Rooy considers it essential to reach an agreement with the International Automobile Federation and the organizers of the Dakar, "To achieve good regulation for the future."

The Dutchman's proposal not only includes competing with an electric vehicle, but also making its entire structure more ecological than it is today.

"That is the most difficult job, but I believe that in ten years we will be able to make great progress", stated in relation to the goal that those responsible for the test proposed to have fully electric vehicles in the edition of 2030.
