El World Endurance modified its calendar for this season after the cancellation of the 6 Hours of Fuji, originally scheduled as the fifth date of the tournament, due to the restrictions that exist to travel to Japan amidst the pandemic of coronavirus.
Given the withdrawal of the Japanese event, the WEC will be presented in Bahrain on two consecutive weekends for the closing of the contest: the October 30, with a 6 hour trial; and the November 6th, with the traditional 8 hours.
“The current instability demands adaptability. Having consulted widely and given the health situation, we will not go to Fuji. A replacement round will take place in Bahrain. My sincere thanks to the organizing team from Japan who went out of their way to organize the event. We are already looking forward to 2022 "Said
“The ongoing pandemic prepared us all for possible cancellations. However, it is always disappointing when this happens. But every setback creates an opportunity and the first double in FIA WEC history will give us all something good. I am sure that we will witness an epic season finale "added Richard Mille, President of the FIA Resistance Commission.
While Sheikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa, Executive Director of the Bahrain International Circuit, explained: “It is a great pleasure for us to be able to host two rounds of the FIA World Endurance Championship. In recent months we have demonstrated our ability to safely host several major international events and we thank the WEC for showing their faith in us once again. "
