The success of the Formula E motivated its organizers to create a new electric championship, albeit one for off-road racing. He himself will be called Extreme E and will use a prototype inspired by an SUV that was dubbed Odyssey 21.
This robust vehicle, which was officially presented at the 2019 edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed, measures 4,40 meters, has a weight of 1.650 kg and a maximum power of 557 hp. Accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 4,5 seconds.
"Its level of performance will exceed the power and torque of the WRC and rally raid vehicles.", summarized Theophile Gouzin, Spark Technical Director. “We innovate in several things, such as wheels that are of a size that have never been used before in this type of vehicle. This will allow us to take advantage of its greater traction and displacement capacity ", Agregó.
The tournament, which starts in 2021, will also be revolutionary. It will be played in five remote areas of the world such as the Arctic, the Himalayas, the Sahara desert, the Amazon Rainforest and islands in the Pacific Ocean.
“The presentations will be related to the challenges of climate change: thaw, deforestation of the Amazon and plastic from the ocean. We have to show our technology in extreme places so that people can relate the big problems to one of the solutions ", he claimed Alexander Agag, the Spanish businessman who heads the project and was also a mentor of the FE
Each event will feature eliminatory duels over stages of about eight kilometers. It will also innovate in broadcasting since instead of being broadcast live like traditional races, a format of a sports documentary where each event will air as a single episode.
The park will be made up of 12 teams with one car each. Odyssey 21s may have their engine cover, bumpers and lights replaced to match production models. The teams that have already confirmed their participation are Venturi, ABT y Hwa, which also race in Formula E.
