Lewis Hamilton, winner of the race, and his escorts received a statuette of a gorilla painted in Gallic colors.

At the time of the award ceremony of the Grand Prix of France de F1, how well won Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), more than one was astonished with the trophy that the English and his escorts received, the Dutch Max Verstappen (Red Bull) and the Finn Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari).

Wild Kong, the original trophy that was awarded at the French GPIt is that instead of harmonious glasses, such as those that are usually delivered, they were given a gorilla painted in the colors of the Gallic flag standing on a silver platform simulating a fuel drum and holding a Pirelli tire in his hands.

The trophy is the work of the plastic artist Richard Orlinski, who is very popular in France and who is often inspired by animals and insects when making his art. In fact, the gorilla is one of the many versions of his creation called Wild Kong.

Although when talking about art, no one can say if something is cute or ugly, since that depends on each one, it is undeniable for the forty-something like who writes these lines make this unique award look like a tribute to one of the most popular games of the 1980s: the Donkey Kong de Nintendo in which a huge gorilla throws barrels at Mario to stop him from rescuing a damsel in distress.

But what there is no doubt about is that the Wild Kong delivered in this French GP will not go unnoticed in the showcases of Hamilton, Verstappen and Räikkönen.
