Former Italian driver Fausto Gresini, owner of Aprilia Racing Team Gresini de MotoGP, died in the Maggiore hospital in Bologna, where he had been admitted for two months fighting against coronavirus
“The news that we would never have wanted to give and that, unfortunately, we are forced to share with all of you. After almost two months fighting the Covid, Fausto Gresini sadly passed away a few days after his 60th birthday ", announced his own team in a short statement.
Gresini entered the hospital on December 27 after testing positive for coronavirus. His team reported that, after his admission to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), very low oxygen saturation levels were detected in his blood and therefore he was induced into a pharmacological coma and received endotracheal intubation.
The Italian was twice 125cc world champion in 1985 and 1987, with 21 victories in 132 Grands Prix, and after that he embarked on the World Championship as a team-manager. In addition to having a team in the highest category of the two wheels, it was also present in Moto2, With the Federal Oil Gresini Moto2, and Moto3, With the Gresini Racing.
