The American Nicky Hayden, champion of MotoGP in 2006, died this Monday as a result of injuries suffered during a traffic accident last Wednesday.
Hayden, 35, was hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on a secondary road near the Italian city of Rimini, and suffered severe brain damage that has resulted in his death.
The rider, who competed in the World Superbikes with Honda, was accompanied in the hospital by Jackie, his partner, by his brother Tommy and by his mother Rose, who arrived early Thursday from the United States.
This Sunday, his condition was already very serious, he did not respond to brain stimuli and he was kept alive by a machine to which he was connected.
