The Cordovan finished ninth in the tournament after scoring points in seven of the ten races held and he had the pleasure of getting on the podium twice by finishing second in Paris (France) and third in the second race in Montreal (Canada). “From Mexico, the fourth date of the year, my pace was very good. I was almost always in the Super Pole and I tried to score points and podiums ”, he assured.
López compared himself to the Englishman Sam Bird, his teammate. "Not counting New York, the race in which I was absent to race in the WEC, I was able to score the same points as Sam, who is one of the best and most experienced drivers in the category," he commented. The numbers give him the reason since he was better than the British in seven of the ten classifications contested, while in the race he finished better located six times. Nonetheless, Bird was fourth in the tournament thanks to his two wins in New York.
For the three-time WTCC champion, his best race was in Montreal where he started 11th and finished on the bottom step of the podium. “I was stronger there. My pace was very good, I was able to pass a lot of cars and fight forward, ”he admitted. While his lowest point was in Marrakesh, where he finished 10th. "I was not fast all Saturday and I was not at the level of my partner," he explained.
After confirming his departure from DS Virgin Racing (he will be replaced by the English Alex Lynn), Pechito hopes to have a new opportunity to take advantage of his experience. “Now understanding things about the car that it took me time to understand in the first races of last season.
