During the '60, '70 and '80, a good part of the cars that were featured in American TV series, and that with some delay were seen in Argentina, had George Barris, known as "The King of the Kustomizers" (The King of Customizers).
Barris started a company specializing in vehicle customization with his brother in Los Angeles in 1945. The company was christened Barris Kustom Industries and continues to be active to this day.
From Barris's ingenuity emerged one of the most iconic cars in TV history: the Batmobile, from the series starring Adam West. As he once told, Batman's peculiar car was created in just two weeks from a Lincoln Futura it had cost him a dollar.
Such was the impact of this car on American popular culture that the original Batmobile sold for more than $ 2013 million at an auction in XNUMX.
In addition, Barris' company created other cars such as KITT, Knight Rider (The Fantastic Car); and those used by the protagonists of The Munsters (The Monster Family) and The Beverly Hillbillies (The Rich Beverly). His vehicles also appeared in films such as North by Northwest, directed in 1959 by Alfred Hitchcock.
Barris passed away on November 5, 2015 at the age of 89.
