La F1 llega a Austria to carry out two consecutive events in the circuit Red Bull Ring. The first will be this weekend with the Styrian Grand Prix, the eighth date of the contest that will be in its second edition after its premiere last year on the Máxima calendar.
Last year the Styrian GP was the second of a season marked by the coronavirus pandemic. The victory was in the hands of the English Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), who is currently running second in the tournament led by the Dutch Max Verstappen (Red Bull).
The Austrian circuit has 4,3 km and 10 curves, which makes traffic a common problem, especially in classification. Also, with such short turns the differences tend to be quite small. Most of the corners are to the right, but the two most demanding turn left, so the wheels that must take the work arrive relatively cold at these two points.
For this Sunday's appointment, the following will be competed Pirelli tires: The C2 as P Zero Blanco (hard), C3 as P Zero Yellow (medium) and C4 as P Zero Red (soft). At the Austrian GP, scheduled the following weekend, they will repeat the C3 and C4, although now as P Zero White (hard) and P Zero Yellow (medium), respectively, and the C5 as P Zero Red (soft).
The concatenation of tests on the same track allows teams to work with multiple data to maximize the potential of the tires, especially the second weekend of competition. Consequently, during the free trials of the Austrian GP it is very likely that the teams will concentrate, especially, on the C5 compound.
In recent times, and except for appearances of the safety car, this circuit usually pays off its careers with a single visit to the pits. This tactic aims to be the majority in the Styrian GP. However, the nomination of softer rubbers a week later could open the option to carry out an extra stop.
