British Grand Prix to debut sprint racing format

Those responsible for the English circuit confirmed that the British GP will be the first of the three GPs that will use this system.

The 2021 edition of Grand Prix of Great Britain de Formula 1, to be held in the circuit of Silverstone Between July 16 and 18 within the framework of the tenth date of the tournament, it will be the first where it will be run under the new sprint race format.

F.1 announced this week that this year there will be two races on European soil and a third on another continent that will be played with this unique format.

Shortly afterwards, those responsible for Silverstone confirmed that the British GP will be in charge of launching this new system that aims to inject more emotion into the presentations of the Máxima.

The sprint competition will replace the usual qualifying session. It will be based on a 100 kilometer fast run who will decide the grid for Sunday's race and will also distribute valid points for the World Cup: three for the first, two for the second and one for the third.

In turn, the starting grid for the sprint will be decided on Friday using the usual qualifying format on Saturdays.
