Canadian Lance stroll (Racing Point) dominated the standings of the Turkish Grand Prix and for the first time in his campaign in the F1 will start from pole position. Stroll, who will share the first row with the Dutch Max Verstappen (Red Bull), was the best in an exciting qualifying session marked by the tough conditions on the track with rain and lots of water.

After two red flags, a lot of waiting and, above all, a lot of excitement, Stroll made history by taking the first starting position of his career. With this, in addition, Racing Point achieved a pole for the first time since its predecessor structure, Force India, I did it with the Italian Giancarlo Fisichella at the 2009 Belgian Grand Prix.

Lance strollAll this in a few last rounds of heart attack in Istanbul. The Mexican Sergio Pérez (Racing Point), with intermediates, dethroned in the final minutes a Verstappen that had dominated much of the session, but, with time almost up, Stroll flew to snatch the privileged position from him.

Meanwhile, the Mercedes They have not been able to cope with the conditions prevailing on the Turkish track and will start, for the first time this season, outside the first row of the grid. The British Lewis Hamilton, who has his first "match ball" this Sunday to win his seventh Formula 1 championship, will start sixth, while the Finn Valtteri Bottas it will make it ninth.

The threat of rain on the Turkish track revealed the division of opinions among the riders when it came to choosing tires, intermediate for some and wet for others. With everyone already on the track about to decide which was the correct choice, the excess water forced the safety car to leave and stop the session.

More than 40 minutes later, the session resumed and, although the red flag was once again waved by a French spinning top Romain Grosjean (Haas), the action continued with Verstappen setting the fastest time.

The rest, Q3, was another story. In the Ottoman chaos, Racing Point was king. “It is one of the best moments of my career. We dream of this since we were little "pointed out an elated Stroll.

All this in a weekend in which Hamilton is seven points away from getting his seventh crown and matching the mythical Michael Schumacher. The Briton will be champion if he wins the race or even if he is second even if Bottas wins (as long as his partner does not get the point of the best lap of the race). If he finishes third or fourth, he will raise the title if the Finn does not win.
