A perfect strategy and the experience of having 21 participations on his back allowed the Brazilian Helio Castroneves (Meyer Shank Racing) prevail in the 150th edition of the Indianapolis 500. It's about your fourth win in the mythical race after those obtained in 2001, 2002 y 2009 with the Team Penske.

Helio CastronevesCastroneves, 46, became with this victory in the fourth driver to achieve four Indy 500 successes and the first non-American to achieve this milestone. This is how he integrates a select group that make up AJ Foyt (1961, 1964, 1967 and 1977), Al Unser Mr. (1970, 1971, 1978 and 1987) and Rick mears (1979, 1984, 1988, 1991).

After starting from the eighth position, Castroneves had a close fight on the end with the Spanish Alex Palau (Chip Ganassi Racing), who came to lead for several laps. The margin of victory in favor of the Brazilian was 4928/1000. Behind the leaders, the French arrived in third place Simon Pagenaud (Team Penske), winner of this test in 2019.

“What an incredible feeling. I knew it would be a great fight and I am very happy ”, the Brazilian congratulated himself.

After the New Zealander Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) quickly lost their first starting position, Castroneves, Palou and the Mexican Pato O'Ward (Arrow McLaren SP) took turns leading the way during the second part of the race.

The Spaniard took first place on lap 195 (out of 200), but the Brazilian managed one last spectacular overtaking with two laps to go and the victory was no longer snatched away.

"It hurts a lot, but I can't be angry about finishing second", said Palou, 24. "I'm very proud to finish second, it was a great battle with Helio."

After his victory, Castroneves jumped out of the car and ran up to the security gate to celebrate. Then he walked the track jumping for joy greeting the 135.000 fans present in the circuit, 40% of the usual capacity (400.000).
