Hyundai Motorsport reaffirmed its commitment to the World Rally Championship by announcing plans to support a potential WRC star. Under the Hyundai Motorsport Driver Development Program (HMDP), the company is embarking on an intensive selection process.
Of a group of 16 candidates invited to Alzenau (Germany), who have already been identified, only a maximum of eight will be invited to remain in the second stage of the process. Ultimately, only one winner will represent Hyundai Motorsport in the WRC by participating in selected WRC2 events in 2018 in the new generation i20 R5.
An initial screening event will be held this month with potential applicants to be evaluated through a series of criteria. Covering technical understanding, English language, PR skills, and communicating with mechanics and engineers, it is an all-encompassing activity with a pool of candidates from which will emerge those who move on to the next echelon.
The drivers, together with their respective co-drivers, will conduct tests on tarmac and gravel in September, before making a final decision on the winner of the award. Hyundai Motorsport will appoint a team to run the program throughout 2018.
A part of the team management will be involved in the selection process, including the team manager, Michel Nandan, the team manager, Alain Penasse, Andrea Adamo, and the marketing director Stefan Ph. Henrich.[sam_pro id = 0_1 codes = ”true”]
