Finnish Jari-Matti Latvala, winner of 18 races of the World rally, will return to the team Toyota for which he ran between 2017 and 2019, although in a different position since he was chosen to replace his compatriot Tommi Makinen at the head of the team.

In this way, Latvala becomes the new boss of the French Sébastien Ogier, 2020 specialty champion, the British Elfyn Evans and his young compatriot Kalle Rovanperä.

“It's been a year since we gave Jari-Matti a farewell from the team as a driver. And now I am very happy to convey this message again. As I thought about our new 2021 team, the face of Jari-Matti first came to mind. That's because there were many situations in which I felt empathy with him since we met "Said Akio Toyoda, team president, Toyota GAZOO Racing World Rally Team.

Jari-Matti Latvala“He always thinks about the fans and his teammates. Being one of the best drivers, I would often see him racing towards the fans as soon as he got out of the car in the service park. He cared about everyone on the team, like mechanics and engineers, and he always talked to them. I think this kind of attitude and character strengthened the team a lot and helped lead to the constructors' title., Anadio.

While Latvala highlighted: “I am truly honored to assume this position on the team and the confidence that Akio Toyoda has shown in me. I'm very excited to continue the work that started together with Tommi, having been part of this team from the beginning as a driver. Now, as a team manager, I have to look at the bigger picture: I have to motivate everyone to work together to achieve the best results. It is a new challenge and I am ready for it ”.
