Jenson Button to replace Fernando Alonso at the Monaco GP

The McLaren-Honda Formula 1 team has announced that its drivers for the 2017 Monaco Grand Prix will be Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne and Englishman Jenson Button, who will thus replace Spanish Fernando Alonso who will compete in the 500 Miles of Indianapolis.

"I am delighted to be back for a Formula 1 race and I couldn't think of a better place to do it than at the Grand Prix of what I consider to be my second home: Monaco," said Button, who started as a starter for the team. Woking until last year.

“I have won the race before, in 2009, and it is one of my favorite circuits of all time. It is a complicated urban layout in which a good rider can make a difference. And although the McLaren-Honda MCL32 has not started the season well, I think it can adapt better to Monaco than to the faster circuits that Fernando and Stoffel have raced so far this season, ”added the Briton.

“I am aware that we do not have a realistic chance, but I think we will have the opportunity to be in the points. As for Fernando, I not only hope he does well in Indianapolis, but he also enjoys it. It will be a great experience for him. He is an excellent driver, as we all know, and he has a lot of experience. So even though the techniques of driving on a super-speedway will be totally new, I think you will get to know them pretty quickly. And on Sunday afternoon, after the Monaco Grand Prix, I'll sit down and watch it on television, ”Button concluded.
