Kris Meeke and Citroën honor Colin McRae

Passionate about motorsports, the Italian public makes a true cult of the men and machines that have built the history of the World Rally Championship. It is in this context that the Rallylegend was born, an event that brings together some exceptional protagonists every year. This year more than 140 vehicles are expected in the Republic of San Marino.

The 2017 edition is a tribute to Colin McRae. World champion in 1995 and official driver of a Citroën Xsara WRC in 2003, the Scotsman left an indelible mark in motorsport history. His particular driving style, which earned him the nickname "McCrash", and the video game saga with his name, made Colin a legend. Unfortunately, he died after a tragic helicopter accident near his home on September 15, 2007.

In addition to leaving the memory of a man who is fond and generous to Citroen Racing employees, Colin McRae has played an important role in Kris Meeke's career. “When I was little, I was one of his staunch fans,” recalls the recent winner of Rally Spain.

“When I was 16 years old, I saved some money to go see him at the Rally de Catalunya. Then I started working in the M-Sport design office. But I wanted to be a pilot, and I was able to achieve my dream by winning an action in search of young drivers. My first season wasn't perfect, but Colin had noticed me and sponsored me. It helped me progress and then move on to the FIA Junior WRC. Even today, he is without a doubt the person to whom I owe the most in my career. "

At Rallylegend, Kris Meeke will pay tribute to his former mentor by driving his Citroën Xsara WRC. To do this, he will be with his “ouvreur” Derek Brannigan: “Beyond the emotional aspect, this car is always a pleasure to drive. It dates back to 2003, but is still incredibly smooth and efficient even now. My goal will be above all to please people who will remember Colin. "

On Sunday, at the end of the rally, Kris will participate in the “Colin's Parade”, which will bring together many former World Champions. Sébastien Loeb will also be present at the wheel of a Citroën C4 WRC.
