The decision of those responsible for World Endurance and IMSA The goal of creating a common regulation for both tournaments that allows manufacturers to fight for victories at a low cost has paid off. The thing is Lamborghini will confirm shortly that it will also have a LMDh, economic option to LMh in which the builders develop their own hybrid prototypes.
In this way, the Italian brand will join Audi, Porsche y BMW, which also chose to leave the chassis manufacturing to a third party (the options are Oreca, Dallara, Ligier and Multimatic). These four macas will be direct rivals of Toyota, Peugeot y Ferrari, which will compete with their LMh.
“We have always said that LMDh is the right category for motorsports in general and also for Lamborghini. Clearly on the technical side, the best opportunity is the VW group platform. We are sharing some ideas and visions within the group and I hope that we will make a decision soon ”, explained Giorgio sanna, head of the racing department of Lamborghini Squadra Corse, to Motorsport.
This means that Lamborghini would replicate the strategy of Audi and Porsche: use an LMP2 chassis developed by Multimatic Motorsport with an engine whose configuration has not yet been revealed. While the German brands will have everything ready for 2023, the Italian house would only join in 2024.
It is not yet clear what Lamborghini's participation will be like, if with a team directly from the factory or by delivering their hypercars to private teams that will have their assistance.
