In the mid-1960s the duo formed by Sonny Bono and Cherilyn Sarkisian, better known as Expensive, was all the rage in the United States.
After signing an agreement with Atlantic Records, the couple increased their fame and became leaders of the hippie movement. Very quick reflexes, the managers of Ford decided to make an agreement with both to promote the Mustang.
They took two units from the 1966 production and handed them over to the famous designer George Barris so that he made the pertinent reforms according to the tastes of each one.
The creator of the Batmobile kept the 8-cubic-inch V289 engine and the three-speed automatic transmission, but modified the exterior appearance: he changed the front, the grills and the rear sector to incorporate the taillights of the Ford Thunderbird.
The vehicles were distinguished by color and interior. He painted Sonny's a mix of gold and brown and placed it in the cabin upholstered in lynx fur and rustic suede; while for Cher he used shades of pink and red and a white ermine finish and black Scottish leather upholstery.
Both cars were auctioned in 2008 on the same lot and paid $ 75.000 for them.
