The Spaniard won the Australian GP and became the rider who has achieved the most triumphs at the helm of a Honda in the premier class.

The Spanish Marc Márquez (Honda) won the Australian Grand Prix de MotoGP after a spectacular duel with his compatriot Maverick Viñales (Yamaha), who suffered a spectacular crash on the last lap. The podium, finally, was completed by the British Cal Crutchlow (Honda) and the Australian Jack Miller (Ducati).

Viñales had started from pole position after winning the classification that took place on the same Sunday due to the storm that forced the cancellation of the activity on Saturday. After the game he set a pace that seemed unattainable for his rivals.

But with nine laps remaining, Márquez launched a fierce attack on the leader and from there the two Spaniards staged an anthological dispute while distancing themselves from the rest of the peloton.

Two turns to the checkered flag, Márquez achieved better traction at the exit of the tight turn 10 of the Phillip Island circuit and thus managed to overcome Viñales at the end of the long main straight, before braking for the fearsome Doohan Corner.

A few curves later and already in the last lap, Viñales tried to regain the leadership position, but he lost control of his machine and went to the floor. With the motorcycle irreversibly damaged, Viñales's illusions ended there and he was unable to complete the route.

In this way, Márquez, who already guaranteed the world title this season (the sixth of his career), achieved his 11th win of the year. With this triumph, he also adds 55 in the premier category and surpasses the Australian Michael Doohan as the most successful in command of a Honda.

“It has been a crazy weekend, because of the weather and everything that happened yesterday. Maverick was very fast today, but I managed to follow him and I was able to prepare for victory. He started to pull very hard, rolling in front very fast, but I knew that if I could hold out with him for four or five laps, victory would be possible ”, Marquez explained.

“We have played a bit with the choice of the soft compound for the rear tire and it reached the end of the limit, but we were able to win. It is very special to get the 55th victory, I feel great in the Honda family and I am looking forward to enjoying this moment with them and the team ”, Agregó.

Meanwhile, the now legendary Italian Valentino Rossi, who this Sunday played his 400th Grand Prize, suffered with the performance of his Yamaha and finished in a discreet eighth place.

En Moto2 the South African won Brad Binder (KTM). Further back were the Spanish Jorge Martin (KTM) and the Swiss Thomas Luethi (Kalex). The tournament maintains the Spanish leader Alex Marquez (Kalex), who finished eighth.
