During the event MMXX: Time to be audacious, which was held in Modena, Maserati presented the MC20, the new supercar that combines performance, sportiness and luxury.
The new MC20 (MC for Maserati Corse and 20 for 2020, the year of its world premiere and the beginning of the brand's new era) is a car with incredible aerodynamic efficiency, which hides a sporty soul with the new Nettuno engine, a V6 of 630 horses and 730 Nm of torque that achieve an acceleration of 0-100 km / h in less than 2,9 seconds and a maximum speed above 325 km/h. This drive also signals Maserati's return to producing its own power units after a hiatus of more than 20 years.
The sports car is extremely light at less than 1.500 kg (curb weight) and, thanks to its 630 hp power, it is the best in its class in relation to weight / power with only 2,33 kg / hp. This record is achieved through the use of top quality materials, exploiting all the potential of carbon fiber without sacrificing comfort.
This revolutionary project has resulted in a car that epitomizes Italian excellence. In fact, the MC20 was designed in Modena and will be built at the plant in Viale Ciro Menotti, where Trident models have been manufactured for more than 80 years.
The MC20 design was produced in approximately 24 months. From the beginning, it had the participation, and its innovative approach, of a team of engineers from the Maserati Innovation Lab, technical specialists of the Maserati Engine Lab and designers of Maserati Style Center.
The system Virtual Vehicle Dynamics Development, which includes the use of one of the most advanced dynamic simulators in the world, was developed in-house by the Maserati Innovation Lab and is based on a complex mathematical model called Virtual Car. This method allowed the 97% of dynamic tests, optimizing development times. The car was then tuned according to the best Maserati tradition, with exhaustive road and track driving sessions under various conditions of use.
The theme that governed the design of the MC20 was the historical identity of the brand, with all the elegance, performance and comfort that are an integral part of its genetic makeup. The focus on its performance led to the conception of a vehicle with a distinct personality, with unmistakable shapes that make it unique.
HR butterfly wing doors They are not only incredibly beautiful but also functional, improving the ergonomics of the car and allowing optimal access to and from the cabin.
Aerodynamics were designed through over two thousand man hours in the Dallara wind tunnel and over a thousand CFD simulations (Computational Fluid Dynamics), which allowed the creation of an authentic work of art.
The resulting car has a sleek line, with no moving appendages, but only a discreet rear spoiler that improves downforce without detracting from the MC20's beauty. The drag coefficient is below 0,38.
Once inside the cabin, the driver is always the center and nothing should distract him from the sporty driving experience. Two 10-inch screens: one for the instrument panel and one for the Maserati Multimedia System (MINE).
Simplicity is also the keynote of the central console, covered in carbon fiber, which only houses a few elements: the wireless charger for the smartphone, the selector switch. driving mode (GT, Wet, Sport, Corsa and a fifth, ESC Off, which deactivates the control functions), two speed selection buttons, the controls for the power windows, the multimedia system controls and a practical storage compartment under the armrests. All other controls are on the steering wheel, with the power button on the left and the launch control button on the right.
The new MC20 will be connected at all times with the program Maserati Connect. The full range of services includes connected navigation, Alexa y Wifi Hotspot; which can also be administered through the Maserati Connect App from the phone or a smart watch.
The MC20 is designed to enable coupe and convertible versions, and to allow electric propulsion. Its production will begin at the end of this year.
