Max Verstappen leaves Lewis Hamilton wanting in the French GP qualifying

The Dutchman will start from pole position on the seventh date of the tournament that takes place at Paul Ricard.

The dutch Max Verstappen (Red Bull) will start from pole position at the Grand Prix of France, seventh date of the 2021 World Cup F1 that is carried out in the circuit Paul ricard.

The championship leader edged out the two riders from Mercedes, the British Lewis Hamilton and the finnish Valtteri Bottas; while the second Red Bull driver, the Mexican Sergio Pérez, winner of the last Azerbaijan Grand Prix, will leave fourth.

Hamilton, who had won the last two editions of the French Grand Prix starting from pole (2018 and 2019), was once again overtaken by a Verstappen that this year seems a real threat to end the reign of the Briton and Mercedes.

“So far it has been a very positive weekend for us, especially at this circuit which is usually difficult. Getting pole is fantastic ”, highlighted Verstappen as he got out of the car.

"It's a great day for us, but we have to finish the job tomorrow and get the 25 points that escaped in Baku."added the Dutchman in reference to the last Grand Prix, where a puncture in one of his rear wheels deprived him of a victory he was sure of.

After pulling in tow during practice, Hamilton was satisfied by reducing the gap to Verstappen to 258 thousandths. “We will continue pushing, fighting and giving everything. His race pace is a tenth or two faster than ours ”, admitted the seven-time world champion.

"We are going to fight for a chance (to overtake) in the first corner and there may be an interesting strategy, I even think it could rain some, so it would be an opportunity to see a race with water", Agregó.

Verstappen and Hamilton will fight again on Sunday, from 10 in Argentina.
