In mid-2019, Quantum group started its operations in the Argentina. The business group, which in Chile represents British brands Aston Martin, Lotus y McLaren, was to start importing and selling McLaren vehicles towards the end of the year.
However, the deepening of the economic crisis in our country and the social explosion experienced in Chile delayed these plans, which did not prevent the group led by Matías Velasco continue to work together with a local partner, whose name they keep secret, to start operations in the first semester of 2020.
Unfortunately, the coronavirus it delayed everything again. The quarantine established by the Argentine government prevented McLaren from starting its commercial activity in April, the month in which its first store was to be inaugurated. It was going to be located in the city of Buenos Aires, more precisely in the charming neighborhood of Puerto Madero.
In the next month it was also planned to deliver the first units, which have already been reserved. In fact, some cars have already been imported from England to Buenos Aires. We are talking about a McLaren 570S Inspired by GT4 and one more radical 600 LT Coupé, which will soon be joined by a 720S Spider and the new Mclaren gt.
"Because of the coronavirus, everything became uncertainty, but in relatively normal conditions this year we should have already sold 10 units"Velasco said. On the other hand, the executive maintains that there are already several reserved units with guarantees in between.
Quantum Group replicates in Argentina the same business model that it has in Peru. In other words, it is the official importer of the factory for both countries, but it has a local partner, which is the one that supports the priority investment and the sale of the cars.
For now, we will have to wait for the end of the quarantine. When this happens, the Puerto Madero store will open and McLaren will be officially presented in Argentina.
