The names of the five nominees for the WWCOTY Woman of Worth, award granted by the Women's World Car of the Year in order to recognize the role, merit and worth of a woman in the automotive world.
In all, the members of the Women's World Car of the Year came up with thirteen names. After analyzing the trajectory of each of the suggested candidates, two jurors without the right to vote reduced the list to five. The candidates are
LOUJAIN AL HATHLOUL, a women's rights advocate in Saudi Arabia: She was imprisoned for believing that women should be able to drive.
ASSEL AL HAMAAD. She represents Saudi Arabia on the Commission for Women in Motorsports and is the first female member of the board of directors of the Saudi Automobile Federation.
MICHÈLE MOUTON, President of FIA Women in Motorsport: Her racing career is well known, notably the runner-up she achieved in the World Rally Championship in 1981.
SABINE SCHMITZ, racing driver who passed away this year: She was the first and only female driver to win the famous annual 24-hour Nürburgring.
The judges will vote for a winner. The results will be known in early June.
The idea to create this award came up in October 2018, during the Car of the Year voting process. At that time, the WWCOTY juries began to debate the possibility of awarding a woman of special worth in the automotive world.
After investigating the existence of possible similar awards, it was found that there was no similar initiative in the world that specifically recognized the contribution of a woman in the motor industry.
The logical answer was that WWCOTY, as a women's organization of motor journalists, should assume the responsibility of rewarding and rewarding the most relevant women in the sector.
