The 2021 edition of the Baja Spain Aragon it was left in the hands of the Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah (Toyota Hilux), who benefited from the delay of the French Sébastien Loeb (Prodrive Hunter).
This 2021 edition of the Iberian test was developed along the roads of the regions of Jiloca and Teruel Community. There were three special tests, one on Friday and the rest on Saturday, which totaled 501,27 timed kilometers.
Loeb finished the first day at the head of the general classification with a second of advantage over Al-Attiyah, but on the second day he was delayed and that left the Qatari a clear path.
“I am really happy to win again. It is the fourth time that Baja España has won. Today our car and team have worked really hard ”, said Al-Attiyah, who finally won by more than 14 minutes ahead of the Swede Mattias Ekström (MINI).
The mendocino Orly Newfoundland did not have a good debut in the Bahrain Raid Xtreme. After defecting on Friday due to a mechanical problem with his Prodrive Hunter, he re-engaged in the second stage, but again failed to reach the end.
For its part, the Paraguayan Andrea Lafarja Borgward BX7 DKR of Puma Energy Rally Team assisted by Wevers Sport, finished 40th in the classification and 22nd in the T1 category. The Guaraní driver suffered a problem with the hydraulic steering in the last 50 km of the race and that caused her to lose some places.
“I am happy to have completed my first FIA date in Europe. It was a very technical rally, demanding on the car and on us. With many top-level drivers, 15 FIA Priorities and more than sixty cars. On the last stage we were doing very well, but the hydraulic steering broke and that made it very difficult to drive. We lost a bit of time, although we achieved the main objective: to reach the end of the race to add kilometers on the truck. In the team they are happy with our work and with the rhythm. I am proud to represent Paraguay and the women of South America in a World Cup. It was a great experience ”, Lafarja commented, sailed by the Argentine Pachu Arrieta.
After this competition, Lafarja will return to Paraguay to continue his preparation there. His second competition on European soil will be the Baja Portoalegre 500, from October 28 to 30. Trials to be carried out in Morocco.
The Puma Energy Rally Team is also made up of the Argentine rider Juan Manuel Silva placeholder image, who will race the Dakar 2022 on a truck MAN of the Wevers Sport. In due course, it will be announced how the Pato will prepare, who already has 12 Dakarian participations (ten as a pilot and two as a navigator).
