Nico Rosberg said goodbye to F.1 with an emotional letter

Through a letter he published on his social networks, the German Nico Rosberg communicated his decision to leave Formula 1 five days after having won his first title in the category. Here's his farewell ...

I have been in the competition for 25 years. My dream, the only important thing, was to become Formula 1 world champion. That has been my goal and now I have achieved it. I have managed to climb that mountain. I'm at the top so I feel like this is what I should do. I feel enormous gratitude for all the people who have helped me to fulfill this dream.

I can assure you that this season has been very tough. I have given my all in all areas after the disappointments suffered in the last two years. Those disappointments took my motivation to levels I had never seen before. But it has also had an impact on my loved ones. It has been a drain on the whole family. I have done everything to achieve that goal. I can't find the words to thank my wife, Vivian. It has been incredible. She understood that this year was my year, our opportunity, and she created a space for me to recover between the races. He has taken care of our daughter every night, has stepped forward when things were really tough and placed our championship first.

When I won the Suzuka race, when the title was in our hands, the pressure really started. I started to think that if I became a world champion, my career would end. In Abu Dhabi, on Sunday morning I knew that this was going to be my last race. I wanted to enjoy the experience, to know that it was the last time. And when the lights went out, I rode the 55 most intense laps of my life. I made the decision on Monday night. After reflecting one day, I first told Vivian and Georg (a member of their rep team), and Toto.

The only thing that makes this decision difficult is that I put my racing family in a difficult position. But Toto understood perfectly. I knew he was totally convinced. The milestone that I will be most proud of in my career will always be having won the world championship with such an incredible team as the Silver Arrows ”.

Now, I am here to enjoy this moment. It is time to enjoy the next few weeks, to remember the season and enjoy this experience. Then I'll go around the next corner and see what life has in store for me.
