Nissan will become the first Japanese car brand to compete in the FIA Formula E electric championship from 2018.
The decision to participate in the growing Formula E provides Nissan with a highly visible global platform from which to convey the message of Nissan Intelligent Mobility; the strategy in three pillars of the company to redefine the way of driving, promoting and integrating its vehicles in society.

It makes sense that we bring these two key elements together to compete in Formula E, "said Daniele Schillaci, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing and Sales, Zero Emission Vehicles and Batteries, and Chairman of the Nissan Steering Committee for Japan, Asia and Oceania.
The FIA Formula E Championship started in 2014 and is a global series of races where teams and manufacturers compete with electric motors on urban circuits in the main cities of the world.
“Not only is it great to welcome a new manufacturer to the Formula E family, it is also great to welcome the first Japanese manufacturer, which shows how global the electric revolution is,” explained Alejandro Agag, Founder and CEO. of Formula E.
Nissan will compete from season five, which begins in late 2018, when the electric championship will introduce new specifications for chassis and batteries. The company will collaborate with its partner Renault to apply its experience and developments, in line with the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance approach to collaboration and maximizing synergies to increase competitiveness.
The fourth season of Formula E begins this December and lasts until July. The world championship visits key locations such as Hong Kong, Berlin, Paris, New York and Montreal.
