If one investigates the rock music of the '80s, one will inevitably come across Van Halen, the evolution of Mammoth, band created in 1972 by the brothers Eddie y Alex van halen, on guitar and drums, and Mark stone, in low. With the arrival of the vocalist David Lee Roth, who rented sound equipment from the Van Halen; Y Michael Anthony, who took the place of Stone on bass, the group began in 1974 a new stage that was accompanied by the name change with which they transcended.

Although Roth earned the frontman spot for his voice and onstage charisma, Van Halen's spirit was always in Eddie's riffs, considered by many to be one of the great rock guitarists of all time sharing Olympus with Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton y Jimmy Page.

Van Halen
Van Halen sold more than 90 million copies.

Between 1978 and today, Van Halen has released 12 albums. In addition, it is in the Top 20 of the bands that have sold the most albums in the United States. with 56 million copies and a total of 90 million worldwide. These milestones, and many others, allowed the group to be included in the 2007 Rock Hall of Fame.

However David Lee Roth and Eddie Van Halen were not only united by their group, but by their passion for cars. A fanaticism that even led them to compose one of their greatest hits: Panama, the third single from the album 1984.

The source of inspiration for this catchy song was a Opel Kadett Caravan from 1969 that Roth saw at a Las Vegas race. That vehicle was driven by a certain "Panama Express".

The vocalist, who until then was always criticized for writing songs about parties and girls, found in this vehicle a new source of inspiration; although he maintained his style using very suggestive words.

Eddie Van Halen
Eddie Van Halen passed away on October 6, 2020 at age 65.

Van Halen, for his part, put his stamp on Panama, which was not only recorded when he strummed the strings of his guitar. On the bridge of the song that Roth says "I can barely see the road from the heat comin 'off" (I can barely see the way because of the heat coming out) the engine of the Lamborghini Miura S 1972 of the guitarist sped up furiously by himself.

Today everyone talks about Van Halen, not because of a new album, or a new song, or because of a confrontation with David Lee Roth. At the age of 65, he passed away after fighting throat cancer for a long time. A great little guitarist left who, luckily, did not leave many songs to continue enjoying.
