Pascal Wehrlein: How to get to F.1 in six years

Pascal Wehrlein

German Pascal Wehrlein, 2015 champion of the famous DTM, will make his Formula 1 debut this season as a driver for the Manor team. Wehrlein is 21 years old and just six years ago began his motorsports campaign after accumulating experience in karting.

Pascal was born on October 18, 1994 in the German town of Sigmaringen. In 2003 he began to compete in karting and seven years later he made his motorsport debut through his participation in the ADAC Formel Masters, a category that had him as champion in 2011.

With that title under his arm he raced in 2012 in the Formula 3 Euro Series and the European Formula 3 and in both with Mücke Motorsport. He was runner-up in the first contest and fourth in the second.

Those good results opened the doors for the DTM in 2013. With a Mucke car he competed in ten races and finished 22nd in the tournament with three points. However, he caught the attention of Mercedes-Benz who recruited him to HWA AG from 2014 and also made him a tester for their Formula 1 team. His progress was noticeable: he finished eighth in the championship and went on to win a test.

In 2015 he played his third season in the competitive German division and used that experience to clinch the title in a campaign that included two wins, a lap record and five podiums. The award was doubled as Mercedes secured him a Formula 1 seat at Manor.

In this way, Wehrlein will debut in the Maximum with six seasons in motorsport that translate into 131 races, 15 victories, 13 poles, 11 lap records and 42 podiums.
