After several frustrations, the Argentine Jose Maria Lopez scored his name among the winners of the 24 Hours of Le Mans to prevail in the 89th edition. This is how the thorn was removed after the abandonment in his debut in 2017, the second place he got in 2018 and 2019 and the third place in 2020.

This time nothing stood between López and his companions, the English Mike conway and the Japanese Kamui Kobayashi, to conquer victory in one of the most important events in the world.

Just one fuel system failure attempted against success, but the efficiency of the engineers of the Toyota GAZOO Racing and the expertise of the pilots themselves to carry out an emergency protocol in the middle of the race allowed them to celebrate in style.

“The last Le Mans races were quite tough for us as a team. Finally winning this competition is a dream come true. It's just amazing ... ", admitted López, that with this result he became the second Argentine to win at Le Mans after the success achieved by José Froilán González in 1954.

“We went a long way during those years, but only now were we able to win Le Mans. All those experiences make the victory even more special. ", recognized the Rio Tercero on previous frustrations, which only had some consolation last year when they won the title.

"Mike and Kamui are like brothers to me and I've seen them do things in the car that are just amazing." said about his companions, with whom he alternates in the conduction of the Toyota GR10 HYBRID N ° 7 of the TGR.

“Of course there is a strong team behind us in Japan and Cologne. We got the glory, but we couldn't do it without this team. Thanks to all of them ", he acknowledged.

Conway and Kobayashi also showed their happiness. “This race is never easy. Even if you are alone at the front, anything can happen ”, the British explained.

“It is an incredible feeling to be here as a Le Mans winner. We had to go through many experiences over the years, some of them very difficult, to get here ”, added in Japanese, who had the honor of receiving the checkered flag.
