Peugeot Argentina presented the Peugeot 308 S GTi, which will begin to be marketed next year. The event was held at the Buenos Aires racetrack, the ideal setting to test this thoroughbred. All the journalists were accompanied by Peugeot Sport pilots and in my case I had to share the driving with Fabián Yannautoni, who defined the car "almost" as a Class 3 National Tourism vehicle. That definition speaks clearly of the performance of this small sports car that I present here.
The compactly proportioned styling of the 308 S GTi suggests sportiness even when not in motion. At the front it exhibits a characteristic feline cut thanks to its headlights with FULL-LED technology. The chrome grille, with the lion in the middle, contributes to forging a strong impression, accompanied by a GTi-specific bumper with black air intake that provides adequate ventilation for its unique engine. On the side, the large glass surface in the rear door suggests interior spaciousness. Finally, looking at it from the back, its pyramid shape reinforces the robustness of the vehicle. The headlights feature the signature of three LED luminous claws. At the bottom, the double exhaust outlet surrounded by a lacquered black diffuser stands out.
Equipped with the 2nd generation I-Cockpit, it has a different instrument panel that integrates the 9.7 ”touch screen. This screen is provided with virtual buttons and a button visible on the console, which provides refinement and simplicity. Its small steering wheel and its instrument panel head-up display perfectly integrated into the dashboard complete this exclusive driving position. The position of the instrument panel “head-up” allows the driver's eyes not to need to deviate significantly from the route to read the information provided by the vehicle, which contributes to the comfort and safety of the driver. The two watches are further apart than in the previous generation I-Cockpit, which optimizes the legibility of the hands above the balance.
The Peugeot 308 S GTi offers a reinforced structure in front and rear doors, front and rear protections for pedestrians, ESP (without automatic connection), Alarm and superlocking. Inside it offers superior safety thanks to its equipment: 6 airbags, safety belts with pyrotechnics and 2 Isofix fixings.
WITH PEUGEOT SPORT TECHNOLOGY
Designed for the new EMP2 platform with stiffer pseudo-McPherson front axle and deformable cross member rear axle. This undercarriage contributes to the overall weight reduction of the vehicle with a semi-hollow stabilizer bar and the use of aluminum in its components. This decrease in the height of the body helps the aerodynamics and therefore the reduction of CO2 emissions.
On the front axle, the geometry was optimized, it suffered changes in the "camber" (with an increase up to -1,5 ° with respect to the regular range) and it has a specific vertical suspension, granted by more rigid spirals, compact damping with progressive compression and specific shock absorbers with hydraulic stop, which improve body control. Also the stabilizer bar is more flexible. While the deformable rear axle is more rigid, with anti-roll control, vertical suspension with stiffer spirals, compact suspension with specific dampers with progressive compression.

It offers a 6-speed manual transmission. A "special" box, adapted to withstand the great torque that this car has. Peugeot Sport incorporated a limited-slip Torsen-type differential, which allows the transfer of torque from a wheel that has lost grip to the gripping wheel. In this way, they improve traction and “grip” when cornering and prepare the vehicle for acceleration when leaving the corner.
It is equipped with an Alcon brake system with red aluminum piston calipers signed by Peugeot Sport. The dimensions of the front discs are 380mm, in the case of the rear, 268mm discs. The 19 '' Carbone wheels, 2,3 kg lighter than a standard 18 '' alloy wheel, have 235 / 35R19 Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.
The 308 S GTi adopts a more direct and responsive electric power steering that enables a reduction in CO2 emissions. Peugeot Sport performed a specific calibration that results in a more direct and responsive steering. We will find in this product a direction with a behavior of reference on the road, but at the same time making it very comfortable to drive in the city, despite its great rolling.
Peugeot Sport worked on various aspects of this 1,6-liter THP engine to achieve its 270CV and high torque: Forged aluminum pistons, 9,2: 1 compression ratio; Reinforced piston rings and cooling improvements; Reinforced Connecting Rods; Reinforced polymer-coated bearing heads; Extreme reinforcements in the connecting rod locks (in the event of excess revolutions); Steel exhaust manifold, developed for a high temperature exposure (1000 ° C, in extreme cases); Specific turbocharger, with double inlet technology, which makes better use of the exhaust gases to drive the turbine.
DRIVE SPORT PACK
Among the most outstanding evolutions applied to the 308 S GTi is the Drive Sport Pack option, thanks to which the driver can fully exploit the sporty performance of this vehicle. This is an additional button on the center console that is located next to the electric parking brake. When pressed, the car acquires the dynamic character that is expressed by the amplification of the engine sound, greater responsiveness of the throttle, sport calibration in the direction and a change of the color of the instrument panel (red), which also shows in the LCD display the dynamic parameters.
