Although he has a guaranteed future in 2022 within Formula 1 with AlphaTauri, the French Pierre Gasly did not hide his frustration at not being taken into account by Red Bull to accompany the Dutch Max Verstappen in the next season of the Maxima.
Gasly already had his chance in the magnate's main team Dietrich Mateschitz between 2018 and mid-2019, but due to its low performance it was "downgraded" to Toro Rosso, today AlphaTauri.
In this new stage in team B, with which he debuted in F.1 in 2017, he has achieved his best sporting results in the category. He was second in the 2019 Brazilian GP, won the 2020 Italian GP and finished third in the 2021 Azerbaijan GP. He is currently eighth in the tournament, very close to matching - or even improving - the seventh place he achieved in 2019.
That is why Pérez's confirmation as Verstappen's teammate for 2022 fell like a bucket of cold water. "With the results I have had this year I am having the best season at Toro Rosso and AlphaTauri of any rider since the team started in F.1 and I am not being rewarded with going higher", Gasly shot at the Canal + of France.
But he not only threw himself against his former team, but also against Checo Pérez himself. “Red Bull prefers to continue with Sergio… It is true that when you watch the performances, especially last weekend in Zandvoort, when he was eliminated in the first qualifier and finished eighth, one lap behind his teammate, he was Driver of the Day ; there are certain things that are not understood ", he ironized.
“It is sad and a bit frustrated, but on the other hand it is like that, they are things that are out of my hands. Unfortunately, it is not up to me. I can only focus on what is happening and continue to do my best for the team and for myself. I'm sure that will pay off in the future with an opportunity in a leading team ”, concluded the Gallic pilot.
