The 2021 edition of Andalusia Rally, first date of the FIA Cross Couuntry Rally Cup, had a controversial ending when it was discovered that the Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah (Toyota), winner in the car category, committed an infraction that was not severely penalized.
Anticipating that this type of situation could happen after the 2020 experience, the organization had made it clear that this type of infraction would end a harsh sanction. However, this did not affect the final result of the Andalusian test.
Al-Attiyah beat the Spaniard by two minutes and 43 seconds Carlos Sainz (MINI), but after receiving a two-minute penalty, a time much higher than the time he gained by cutting the road, he remained at the top of the general classification.
