Prodrive to showcase part of its exclusive collection of iconic cars at Goodwood

Frenchman Sébastien Loeb and Finn Ari Vatanen are on the list of drivers who will drive them.

In the 2021 edition of Goodwood Festival of Speed, which will take place from July 8 to 11, Prodrive will showcase some of its iconic race and rally cars from the last 40 years. Many of them will be driven up the 1,16 mile hill by famous names within motorsports, including world rally champions, the French Sebastien Loeb and the finnish Ari Vatanen.

Cars range from the Ford Escort RS1800 MKII with which Vatanen won the 1981 title with David Richards, president of Prodrive, as navigator; to the last Aston Martin Vantage GTE who won the World Endurance Championship of the FIA ​​in 2020, going through the Prodrive Hunter T1, which made its rally debut Dakar Rally last January, and the Subaru Impreza Group A y WRC driven by Colin McRae y Richard Burns.

Loeb, competing for the team Bahrain Raid Xtreme Led by Prodrive, he will drive the Hunter for the first time since the Dakar. Vatanen and Richards will once again crew one of the Escort MKIIs that helped them win their world rally title 40 years ago.

The official pilot of Aston Martin Racing, Marco Sorensen, will drive the Vantage GTE # 95 in which he and Nicki thiim won the FIA ​​WEC GTE drivers' title last year, Jimmy McRae will get behind the wheel of the Impreza Group A with which his son Colin won the Rally de Catalunya in 1996; while David lapworth, Prodrive's technical director, will drive the Subaru Impreza that Burns used to win the 2000 Safari Rally Kenya.

“The Festival of Speed ​​is one of the sporting events of the year that I really look forward to. The paddock has a unique atmosphere where fans can get up close to their heroes and get a chance to see so much motorsport history on the hill. We will join the action with several of our cars that represent Prodrive's successes over four decades. "Richards explained.

For the businessman it will be the opportunity to share a car with Vatanen again and they will do it on an Escort MKII that was restored after two years of work. Goodwood will be the first event the vehicle will be exhibited at. “The last time Ari saw this car was 40 years ago at the San Remo Rally, where we hit a wall! I hope he doesn't drive it as hard as he did in 1981 ”, he claimed.

Other cars that will be exhibited at the Prodrive stand will be a Metro 6R4 used by Jimmy McRae to win the British and Irish Rally titles in 1986, the Subaru Impreza with which Colin McRae won the 1995 WRC title, a BAR Honda de F1 of the 2004 season and a Ford Falcon V8 Supercar created by Prodrive to run in the Australian category.
