One of the great questions of Dakar 2022 has been revealed. And it's not about the first details of the tour, which has already been announced; otherwise the Audi team drivers, brand that will join the great adventure with a hybrid vehicle.
The trident will be formed by the French Stéphane Perterhansel, winner of the last edition; the Spanish Carlos Sainz and the Swedish Mattias Ekström, linked to the Ingolstadt brand in other categories. As explained by the Daily Brand, the announcement will be made next week.
The team is in charge of Q Motorsport, a detachment of the X-Raid, so it is not surprising that Perterhansel and Sainz are the spearhead of the brand new team. In fact at the very moment it was known that Sven Quandt would be in charge of the project it was speculated that with both pilots they would follow him in the new challenge.
In the case of Ekström, he made his Dakar debut last January in the specialty with a Yamaha UTV, which was also assisted by the X-Raid.
With this confirmation now it remains to know who will be the buggy drivers of the German team who have achieved the victories in the first two experiences of the Dakar rally in Saudi Arabia hand in hand with Sainz (2020) and Peterhansel (2021).
It is worth remembering that the X-Raid is now in charge of Quandt's children, Thomas y Tobias.
El Audi T1 Hybrid will be presented in the 2021 edition of Goodwood festival. The vehicle will have the electric motors developed in the Formula E that will obtain their energy from batteries and also from a gasoline combustion impeller inherited from DTM.
