Sébastien Ogier won - and crashed - at Rally Croatia

With the result achieved in the first edition of the Croatian test, the Frenchman returned to first place in the tournament.

The French Sébastien Ogier (Toyota) conquered this Sunday the Rally Croatia, with only six tenths of a second advantage over the British Elfyn Evans (Toyota), and took the lead in the ranking of the World Rally with three disputed tests.

Evans was leading before tackling the last stage, but a failure in the last meters left Ogier victorious in this first Rally Croatia in World Championship history.

“I thought it would not be enough. It has been tight until the end and without a doubt Elfyn's final mistake has cost him the victory "said Ogier, who already won in Monte Carlo in January ahead of the Briton.

"I imagine it is because of this type of emotions that one is in this sport"smiled Ogier, who has already confirmed that he will leave the activity at the end of this season. "After a difficult weekend, between yesterday's puncture (Saturday) and this morning's problem (Sunday), I was happy just to stay in the race "He said.

It is that just before taking the exit of the last stage, the French suffered a traffic accident. In one video, he is seen turning to the right side of a road and hitting a vehicle that was passing him just to the right, damaging the passenger side of his Toyota Yaris.

"The important thing was to see that no one was injured, that the person with whom we had the accident was fine and that there was only material damage", the Frenchman pointed out at a press conference. "The biggest problem was that the police did not speak any English"He continued, ensuring that an agent gave him permission to leave and thus arrive on time at the exit.

Evans, on his side, confirmed it: "That last corner! I completely missed it and I would say I wasted a second ". A second that meant a defeat for the world runner-up.

Leader on Friday, the Belgian Thierry Neuville (Hyundai) completed the podium on Croatian asphalt, 8,1 seconds behind Ogier, after losing time on Saturday due to a poor tire choice.

In the championship, Ogier has 61 points against Neuville's 53 and Evans's 51. The next date will be Rally of Portugal, from May 20 to 23.
