Toyota launches a new category in 2018. Its about Toyota GAZOO Racing Trophy, which will offer excitement to the owners of the Toyota GT86 for rallies and circuits from all over Europe. This new championship, launched by Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG), is open to Toyota GT86 CS-V3 y Toyota GT86 CS-Cup circuit and Toyota GT86 CS-R3 of rallies.
In order to offer the maximum possible flexibility, drivers will be able to participate in more than one series within Europe and accumulate trophy points based on their results, the number of participants and the level of the competition. With no specific technical regulations or registration fees, racing GT86 owners now have a great opportunity to compete for a major prize at no additional cost.
The final classification of the Toyota GAZOO Racing Trophy will be determined by the ten best results of each driver throughout 2018. The winner will receive € 35.000 and a Toyota C-HR as a prize, while the second will be rewarded with € 25.000 and the third will get € 20.000.
“We have worked hard to create a trophy that adds value to our GT86 customers and reflects the values of Toyota GAZOO Racing. The combination of track and rally cars in the same competition is a very interesting aspect, and we think it will generate a lot of interest from participants and fans. The championship has great potential and I believe that we are at the beginning of a new era of Toyota private motorsport in Europe.", he claimed Emanuele Battisti, Responsible for Automotive Projects for TMG Clients.
Much effort has gone into generating a points system that offers racetrack and rally participants the chance to compete equally with each other, while also rewarding those who are victorious in the most competitive environments.
GT86 racing vehicles will accumulate trophy points in any European championship for which the vehicle complies with technical regulations. After five editions of the GT86 Cup at the Nürburgring, TMG expects many trophy participants to compete in the VLN and RCN series and 24-hour races, and also that some will do so in the 24H series organized by Hankook, DMV GTC and the NES 500.
Rally participants will also be able to compete in any event held in Europe and the trophy points will be determined by the driver's finish position compared to other homologated R2 or R3 vehicles, thus ensuring greater flexibility for customers in the diverse environment of rallies.
From the experience of previous seasons, TMG expects the GT86 CS-R3 to compete in championships such as the Tour European Rally series, the German Rally Championship and the FIA European Rally Championship, as well as various other national championships.
In both circuits and rallies, the distance of the race and the number of participants will considerably determine the number of trophy points at stake. The maximum possible score per event will be 75 points, which will be awarded for a victory in a category with five or more vehicles in a 24-hour race or a rally of 200 km or more of special stages.
Toyota GAZOO Racing Trophy prizes will be awarded to those drivers who take part in a minimum of five races between January 1 and November 30, 2018. If competitors participate in more than ten races, their best ten results will be counted. More details on the scoring system and the structure of the prize money can be found at www.RacingByTMG.com.
