Toyota Yaris, 2021 European Car of the Year

The model of the Japanese brand won the award for the second time, just when it has been number 1 in sales in the Old Continent.


Selected by a jury of 59 journalists from all over Europe, the fourth generation of Toyota Yaris He received the award Car of the Year (COTY) in Europe taking the lead from the first generation innovator that won the same accolade 21 years ago. The Yaris has been consistently recognized by the jury, being part of the shortlist for the award in each of its four generations.

The COTY jury has praised and distinguished the technology Toyota Electric Hybrid from Yaris for its smooth, low-emission and affordable ride, which perfectly illustrates why more than 80% of European Yaris buyers choose the hybrid electric variant.

Toyota YarisYaris has also been recognized for its segment-leading design, dynamic behavior and safety. In addition, the European Car of the Year jury especially appreciated Toyota's success in rekindling the passion for small sports cars with the launch of the GR Yaris.

The 2021 Europe Car of the Year award comes just days after the new Yaris was ranked as the best-selling car in Europe for the first time.

Toyota has been awarded the Car of the Year award in Europe three times: with the Yaris, in 2000 and 2021; and with the Prius, in 2005.
