Ford unveiled the new Shelby GT-H, a special version of the 2016 Mustang GT created in conjunction with car preparer Shelby American and car rental company Hertz as part of the 50th anniversary commemoration of the iconic Shelby GT350-H model. .
The limited edition of 140 units is available to rent starting in June at select airports in the United States. The launch is a tribute to the “Rent-a-Racer” program that was famous in the 60s.
50 years ago, Caroll Shelby and Hertz saw an opportunity to provide customers with a special version of the Shelby. To do this, Ford developed a V8-powered Mustang which provided some of its style and performance.
For its part, Hertz made it accessible to the public through the program known at the time as "Rent a Race Car." Both companies would repeat the same formula in 2006 and again this year it is relaunched with all the technology but with more history.
The 2016 Ford Shelby GT-H has a classic, muscular appearance. Like its two previous generations, the bodywork is black and gold with its traditional Shelby Le Mans styling. It also has a special hood opening, a carbon fiber front diffuser, a rear spoiler, exclusive badges and the serial number.
Inside it has logos on the seats and consoles. Its special items, developed by Ford Perfomance, include "cat-back" tailpipe with its signature sound and a racing handling package with specially calibrated shocks, anti-roll bars and 19-inch alloy wheels with high-performance Michelin tires.
