Valtteri Bottas recovered and dominated the second Formula 1 testing session in Bahrain

The Finn, who had suffered mechanical problems in his Mercedes on Friday, left Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri) behind.


After an auspicious start to the preseason, with only six laps due to a problem in the gearbox of his Mercedesthe finnish Valtteri Bottas managed to recover on the second day of activity of the F1 en Bahrain after staying with the best time.

The Nordic topped the timesheets with a lap of 1m30s289, although he completed it using the tire compound Smoother Pirelli C5 and with only 20 minutes of session remaining when the track was at its fastest.

Bottas, who completed 58 laps, sidelined the French 124/1000 Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri) and for 171/100 to the Canadian Lance stroll (Aston Martin). His partner, the champion Lewis Hamilton, did not have a good day. In addition to getting lost and causing a red flag, he was 15th in the table, more than three seconds from the lead.

On this second day of general practice, Spanish Fernando Alonso got behind the wheel of the Alpine. The two-time champion was second in the morning session; while he was tenth overall in the two shifts, two seconds behind the Finn.
